Liverpool St.Helens FC was privileged to host the Rugby World Cup at Moss Lane, St.Helens, 28th July 2015, on its round Britain  tour.

A tag Rugby festival attended by over 200 Under 7 and Under 8 year olds from local rugby union and rugby league clubs was the main supporting event. After the games the youngsters swarmed to have their picture taken with the Web Ellis Cup. To make the the event a whole day celebration of the cup’s visit there were bouncy castles, other popular attractions, and a barbecue.  Thankfully the appalling summer weather relented and the the outdoor events were held in dry, and occasionally sunny conditions.

The day’s events were attended  by Councillor S Glover, Mayor of St.Helens and Mrs Glover, and Mrs S Barton Chair of Windle parish council, who officially welcomed the mayor’s party to Moss Lane.

The day was concluded with  a sell-out Wooden Spoon children’s charity luncheon attended by former club and England international players, Fran Cotton and Mike Slemen, who took part in an absorbing  ‘question and answer’ session.
