LSH Vs Huddersfield Senior Colts – 8th Jan 2017

Big welcome to our Yorkshire opposition to Moss Lane. Much anticipated return leg of the conference league format and top of the table clash.

1st half

Opening exchanges both sides looking to shake off the Xmas cobwebs and find some rhythm. LSH broke the deadlock on 12 minutes with some good interchange play seeing Barbs gas up the line only to be stopped just short via a high tackle. Yellow for the offender and penalty try awarded. 7-0. Second try followed shortly after with another well worked move down the left flank which saw Critch race away to touch down under the sticks. Jamie converted his second 14-0. Second quarter gave LSH a new challenge with Macca picking up 2 yellows for talking back to the ref and we were down to 14. Reshuffle had some affect and the first halve played out with no scores but for a last minute LSH penalty which Jamie slotted.

Half time score – LSH 17, Huddersfield 0

2nd half

Good half time team talk we discussed a couple of changes which worked well and an early line break, good support and quick hands saw Jacob with straight forward finish. Jamie converted a tricky kick 24-0. Jamie then converted a penalty opportunity to keep the scoreboard ticking over 27-0. LSH had their tails up and the next try was the pick of the day. Well executed backline move made initial break & great support play saw the ball pass through many hands before Critch finished under the sticks. 34-0. 15 minutes in Joppo picked up yellow for high shot, but LSH continued to dominate. Chris spotted Huddersfield slow to cover marker positions and broke clean through to fend off the fullback and score his first of the season, 41-0. With 10 minutes to go Joppo pick up his second yellow for a high tackle and Huddersfield exploited the mismatch in numbers to score in the corner, 41-5. LSH resolve/defence held firm and on the final whistle Jamie slotted a nice grubber to leave simple score for Ben L.

Final Score – LSH 46, Huddersfield 5

Players: Chris, Lewis, George, Charlie, Louis, Alex Joppo, Connor, Joe D, Nic, Cameron, Ben L, Keeno, Jamie, Josh, Critch, Macca, Jacob (capt), Matty, Ben D, Gakka and Barbs.

MOM – Doesn’t get any easier to pick out a single performance. Opposition coach highlighted Jacob’s contribution.

Comments – Could the lads rediscover the form/performance levels after the Xmas break? Simple answer was yes!! Attitude, application and desire to work for each other. Even after a few setbacks throughout the game they pulled together and adapted. Another very pleasing performance.

Thanks, Tony.
